LAB calls on the Department of Education to “sit down to negotiate” improvements in school canteens

The union demands a reduction in the ratio per student body, an increase in hours and the hiring of more staff.

The LAB union has concentrated this Wednesday at the headquarters of the Basque Government in Vitoria-Gasteiz and has condemned that the Department of Education adopts “unilaterally” decisions on the operation of public school canteens without attending to their requests, so he has demanded that the Ministry “sit down to negotiate” improvements.

LAB has stated in a note that at the beginning of this course, the Jokin Bildarratz department published a new circular on the operation of the dining rooms for this course on its website. In his opinion it was “a once again unilateral decision” that “does not include at all many” of their demands for the improvement of this service, such as the reduction of ratios, the increase in working hours and the hiring of more personnel.

The central argues that the school canteen is a fundamental part of education integral of the student body, which should be considered as one more space in the center educational where the child continues to learn and not as “a mere ancillary service” as in his opinion the Department of Education does.

LAB also recalls that the school canteen is the main and sometimes only food base for many students, which is why it urges Education to “not make unilateral decisions” as it “sits down to negotiate” the order that regulates public school canteens.
