The option will be enabled from this Monday, January 24. Employers must keep their information and email updated.
Starting this Monday, January 24, 2022, the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute (IESS) will enable an option on its web portal to validate medical certificates from 1 to 30 days of rest, and thus avoid crowds in medical units and infections of COVID-19.
Until now it could only be validated via online these certificates when the rest was up to three days.
With the resurgence of COVID-19 infections due to the omicron variant, several companies returned to teleworking and reported part of their infected payroll and with permits of up to fifteen days. For this reason, the procedures that in these cases had to be face-to-face increased. For example, last Friday at the agency located in the Bolivarian citadel of Guayaquil, the affiliates who came to validate their certificate took about two hours to wait until they reached their turn.
Given this situation, this new option is enabled for permits of up to 30 days of rest.
These are the steps to carry out this procedure virtually:
- Go to www.iess.gob.ec.
- Click on the ad that will appear on the direct access screen.
- Enter the ID number and password.
- Select ‘Monetary Subsidy’ and continue the process.
The validation can be carried out up to eight days after the medical rest has ended.
In order for workers to carry out this validation without complications, it is an obligation for employers to keep their data and email updated, indicates the IESS.
For this reason, the institution reminds that in case of requiring the update of data, this can be done from the same web portal in ‘Virtual Procedures’, ‘Employers’ section, option ‘Generation, Consultation and Printing of Receipts’.
Thus, the IESS makes a call to opt for online procedures to avoid the proliferation of the coronavirus.
Social Security members who are absent from work for more than three days receive sick pay; from the fourth day to 70 days, the IESS pays 75% of the average of the last three salaries before the onset of the illness (25% of the employer); from the 71st to the 182nd day of rest, pay 66%. There are companies that cover the counterparty, but they are not required by law. (I)
