Minister of production assures that fish is not contaminated and that it can be consumed

This January 23, the production minister, Jorge Luis Prado, visited the beaches of Ancón, in the north of Lima, which were affected by the oil spill. After a meeting with a group of fishermen, the official, in an interview for RPP, assured that the fish are free from contamination and that are ready to be consumed by the population.

Luis Prado emphasized the concern of the fishermen for the information on the supposed fishing of marine animals in poor condition. “That is not true, that fish is completely clean, ready to be consumed by the residents,” he said. He even revealed that he was going to prove it. “We are going to give it a try, we are going to eat here right now, that parakeet that is arriving. We are going to eat it in sweat and pork rinds to show that it does not have any contamination,” he explained.

He also indicated that this information is supported by experts in the field. “(Fish free of contaminants) It is not because we say so, the specialists have determined it that way. We here have the participation of Sanipes and Imarte. We are not talking informally, but in an informed manner”, pointed out the head of the Ministry of Production.

Since the fish used to be washed with sea water, which is now in the process of being cleaned due to the oil spill, he announced that the fishermen will be helped with the water supply for the corresponding process. “(This) to be able to maintain that clean and healthy condition,” he specified. “That fish that is being sold here is not contaminated, it is ready to consume, that (citizens) lose care and that they come with complete peace of mind to consume,” he remarked.
