The Ministry of Production (Produce) established the capture limit of the bonito resource (Sarda chiliensis chiliensis) at 40,516 tons for the year 2022, applicable to fishing vessels that use purse seines.
The distribution is as follows:
- 13,949 tons corresponding to the month of January until March 31
- 7,824 tons corresponding to April 1 through June 30
- 2,658 tons corresponding to July 1 through September 30
- 16,085 tons corresponding to October 1 through December 31
The established catch limit may be modified by the Institute of the Sea of Peru (Imarpe) depending on the biological-fishing and/or environmental factors that it deems, for which it will send the recommendation with the corresponding measures to the Ministry of Production.
Likewise, Produce, based on the recommendations provided by Imarpe, will establish the conservation measures that protect the spawning processes of the bonito resource (Sarda chiliensis chiliensis).

In addition, the rule establishes that in the event of incidental capture of Juvenile specimens of bonito fish, in percentages higher than 20% for 3 consecutive days or 5 alternate days in a period of 7 days, Imarpe recommends to the Ministry of Production, through the General Directorate of Supervision, Control and Sanction, the preventive suspension of the work of fishing in the area of occurrence for a period of up to 5 consecutive days.
In case of recidivism, the suspension is doubled, and if this situation continues, the definitive suspension proceeds, until the Imarpe recommends its lifting.
