ELA, LAB, CCOO, UGT and SATSE have called for mobilization in Bilbao, San Sebastián and Vitoria-Gasteiz, starting at 12:00. In addition to the Osakidetza staff, the unions are calling on citizens to participate in the demonstrations.
Unions SATSE, ELA, LAB, CC. YES. and UGT have called, for this Sunday, January 23, demonstrations in Bilbao, Donostia-San Sebastián and Vitoria-Gasteiz to denounce the situation of “collapse” of Primary Care and the overload of hospital care, and demand immediate measures to address this situation .
For this reason, they will carry out demonstrations at the 12:00 noon in Bilbao (Sacred Heart), Donostia (Boulevard) and Vitoria-Gasteiz (Plaza of the White Virgin).
In the words of the calling unions, the public health situation is not a consequence of the pandemic. In his opinion, the crisis caused by the coronavirus has come to aggravate a situation that it is structural Y What is it pre-pandemic.
They have reported that Osakidetza is facing the sixth wave of coronavirus “with a flagrant lack of means, organization and planning”.
In this context, they have underlined that just two months ago Osakidetza decided to lay off 4,000 professionals, that a few days ago resident staff were required to work for free; that the temporary rate is almost 60%; that the vaccination and screening teams have been dismantled; that leave, vacations and other absences are not replaced or that it has been decided to restrict the hours of Primary Care centers.
They have also shown that the hospitals show a significant increase in the workload derived from the “collapse” of Primary Care.
However, the unions do not believe that the Basque Government is taking steps to deal with this situation.
In addition to the Osakidetza staff, the unions are calling on citizens to participate in the demonstrations.
