National Council for Labor and Employment Promotion will be reactivated next week

The head of the Ministry of Labor and Employment Promotion (MTPE), Betssy Chavez, announced that as of next week the National Council for Labor and Employment Promotion will be reactivated, which will be attended by the President of the Republic, Pedro Castillo, and the head of the ministerial cabinet, Mirtha Vásquez.

“Surely we are going to have discrepancies, we are going to see high points, but I am convinced that both workers as employers we are going to have to give in at certain points to seek the best for the country, because we all want governance, “said the official.

Chávez Chino expressed his confidence that the reopening of the National Council for Labor and Employment Promotion can help guide workers and employers on how we can improve the country’s situation. Likewise, he stressed that the transversal work of the MTPE.

This announcement was made during the second day of scheduled meetings with the trade union centrals and business associations, where the minister met, separately, with representatives of the General Confederation of Workers of Peru (CGTP), of the National Confederation of Private Business Institutions (Trust) and the National Society of Industries (SNI) in order to generate consensus that produces changes.

The general secretary of the CGTP, Gerónimo López Sevillano, affirmed that the union he represents raised a series of demands, including the drafting of a General Labor Law or Labor Code; a new Collective Relations Law; prohibition of outsourcing services, among others.

In that sense, he asked Minister Betssy Chavez Chino to install, as soon as possible, a technical table that seeks a solution to these points.

For his part, the president of the Trust, Oscar Caipo Ricci, welcomed the general policy of the Government for the period 2021-2026 and said that policies that promote employment and formalization are required. He highlighted the importance of MTPE in the role of balance to generate work.

Likewise, Minister Chavez Chino received the president of the SNI, Ricardo Márquez Flores, and the director of the SNI, José Luis Naranjo Correa, who specified that the largest amount of employment is generated by small businesses. They commented that there are three million small companies and 20,000 large companies.

The Labor Minister announced the opening of a dialogue with the employers. “On Thursday mornings we are going to listen to workers’ unions and, in the afternoons, we will meet with employers,” he said.
