Digemid: 40% of audited pharmacies incurred in fault for not selling generic drugs for Covid-19

The General Directorate of Medicines, Supplies and Drugs (Digemid) reported that 40% of supervised pharmacies and drugstores committed a fault by not selling essential generic medicines, mainly for the treatment of Covid-19, for which they were sanctioned.

It should be noted that in 2020, when a similar scenario was presented with high demand and speculation, the Executive declared a list of generic medicines as essential goods, with which pharmacies are obliged to have available stock of these.

The list includes 48 essential generics, of which 21 are for the treatment of Covid-19. Paracetamol, Azithromycin, Methylprednisone, Dexamethasone, among others, stand out.

It should be noted that the penalties for drugstores and pharmacies for not offering these generics range from 0.05 UIT (S/ 230) to 2 UIT (S/ 9,200).
