The Indecopi Special Monitoring Center (CEMI) pointed out that citizens have reported shortages and price increases of generic drugs.
Given this, the institution urged the providers to respect the rules of protection and defense of the consumer, as well as the fulfillment of its obligations.
Suppliers must provide adequate information on the stock of products and not privilege the sale of brand-name drugs over generic ones, in addition to charging previously reported prices.
In addition, prices should always be rounded in favor of consumers and comply with the conditions offered in the delivery service. In the case of generic products, pharmacies and drugstores are obliged to keep them available or demonstrate their sale.
Indecopi urged suppliers to avoid behaviors that promote speculation and the hoarding of these medicines that are so necessary for the fight against COVID-19, behaviors that also constitute crimes according to the Penal Code.
Meanwhile, it was reported that consumers can access the reference price list of medicines through the Observatory of Pharmaceutical Products of the Ministry of Health (http://opm.digemid.minsa.gob.pe/#/consulta-producto) .
In turn, as the National Authority for Consumer Protection, it requested the Ministry of Health and Digemid to act to control and monitor compliance with current regulations.
