According to analysts from the FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast LatinFocus, Peru will record unemployment below the average for Latin America in the next five years. This indicator was presented in its last report of December 2021.
The Peruvian unemployment rate will be 8.3% of the active population in 2022, 7.8% in 2023, 7.4% in 2024, 7% in 2025 and 6.7% in 2026. Meanwhile, the average of Latin America will be 8.8% in 2022, 8.5% in 2023, 8.2% in 2024, 7.9% in 2025 and 7.6% in 2026, analysts estimated.
Positions in 2022 and 2023
It should be noted that, this year, Peru will achieve the fifth lowest unemployment rate in the region with 8.3%, after Mexico, Ecuador, Paraguay and Chile with unemployment rates of 3.9%, 4.7%, 6.5 % and 8%, respectively, according to forecasts by the FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast LatinFocus.
It will be followed by the unemployment rates of Uruguay (9.3%), Argentina (10.2%), Colombia (11.6%) and Brazil (12.7%).
In 2023, Peru will have the fourth lowest unemployment rate in Latin America, at 7.8%, after Mexico (3.8%), Paraguay (7%) and Chile (7.7%), analysts predicted.
Then the unemployment rates of Uruguay (8.8%), Argentina (9.6%), Colombia (10.8%) and Brazil (12%) will be positioned.
In 2024 and 2025
In Latin America, by 2024, Peru will register the third lowest unemployment rate, with 7.4%, after Mexico and Paraguay, with unemployment rates of 3.8% and 7.2%, respectively, predicted panelists from the FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast LatinFocus.
It will be followed by the unemployment rates of Chile (7.6%), Uruguay (8.4%), Argentina (9%), Colombia (10.4%) and Brazil (11.2%).
