Congressman Alejandro Cavero – co-authored with other legislators from Avanza País – presented a project that seeks to temporarily distribute 30% of the mining and oil canon directly to the population that lives in the extractive zones that benefit from the canon.
The initiative – if approved in their respective instances – It would take effect from January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2027; and would also cover the distribution of the canon accrued throughout 2022.
To access this money, the beneficiaries must be of legal age and be registered at an address in the extractive jurisdiction for a minimum period of six months. The distribution would take place through the collection of data by the MEF from Reniec, and a bank account would be opened in the Banco de la Nación.
According to Cavero, this initiative seeks to involve the population in the wealth of natural resources against “an inefficient State that does not redistribute.”
In addition, it will allow citizens to manage their own money, as well as reduce social conflicts.
