Minem does not lose sight of Candamo to increase gas reserves

The Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) does not rule out entering the Candamo forests, located in the Bahuaja Sonene National Park, for the establishment of a new batch of hydrocarbons that will increase Peru’s natural gas reserves.

During his presentation before the Energy and Mines Commission of Congress, Deputy Minister Jorge Chávez guaranteed that there are proven reserves to complete the massification of natural gas, sustained in deposits that have not yet been exploited, such as those in the Madre de Dios basin.

“According to what the people of Perupetro told us, we have gas reserves for the next 30 years. In addition, we have Lot 58, which is not yet in production, and in Candamo we have a well that, in the future, we are evaluating the possibility of putting it into production for that part of Madre de Dios”, Engineer Abel Andrade, advisor to the ministerial office, said.

In addition to Aguaytía, Oxapampa and Camisea, Candamo is one of the areas with the greatest potential for gas exploitation in Peruvian territory. It is estimated that there is a minimum of three trillion cubic feet of natural gas (TCF) in place, almost as important as the 15 TCF originally reported in its counterpart in Camisea (blocks 56 and 88).

It is located 350 kilometers southwest of the Camisea gas and condensate fields. These two hydrocarbon provinces are separated by the Manú National Park, through which the trend of structures with potential for hydrocarbon exploration continues.
