The Department of Labor and Employment has said that it is “absolutely unacceptable that the purpose and transparency” of the use of those funds be questioned and has rejected any accusation of favoritism for political reasons.
The Basque Government has accused the PP of “using the courts as an excuse for issues that have to do with mere party strategies and not those of the country” due to its announcement to appeal the distribution of EU covid funds.
The Executive of Isabel Díaz Ayuso announced last Wednesday that it will file an appeal before the Supreme Court against the distribution to the autonomous communities, including Euskadi, of these European funds by the Government for excluding the Community of Madrid and distributing them, according to the Executive of this community, “arbitrarily”.
In addition, the Junta de Castilla y León has presented a request, prior to the judicial process, for the Government of Sánchez to withdraw and change the proposal for the distribution of 9 million euros of European funds for active employment policies between four autonomies (Euskadi , Navarra, Valencia and Extremadura), understanding that it must also participate in its distribution. This procedure was also carried out by the Xunta de Galicia chaired by Alberto Núñez Feijóo.
In a statement, the Department of Labor and Employment of the Basque Government, led by the socialist Idoia Mendia, has said that it is “absolutely unacceptable that the purpose and transparency” of the use of funds that have been reported in the Parliament of Vitoria-Gasteiz.
He adds that, in this case, there is also an additional factor because, as “all political leaders must know, they are subject to additional control over the use of these resources by the EU authorities”, of which he does not know the Basque Government if “those who have gone to court and make accusatory statements also have doubts”.
After warning that “not even a shadow of suspicion about some resources” can be admitted in favor of promoting youth employment, the Basque Executive has insisted that it is “reckless to try to paralyze the training and hiring of unemployed young people due to purely partisan interests.
“We strongly reject any accusation of favoritism for political reasons, that do not even agree with the acronyms managed by the Ministry and the different governments that have presented projects adjusted to European strategies”, adds the statement calling for the cessation of “any attempt to confront communities” for the distribution of these money.
