The manager of Autodema, Arturo Arroyo, reported that within a maximum period of one week the regional governor of Arequipa, Kimmerlee Gutiérrez, will send a letter to the Cobra company, which on Tuesday terminated the Majes Siguas II contract, which would lead to future arbitrations.
Arroyo said that the letter would clarify the alleged breaches of the regional government that the company alleges in its contract expiration letter. “At this point many causes have already been overcome,” Arroyo said at a press conference. He gave as an example the inscription of plot 7 located in Pusa Pusa, which will serve for the project’s dam.
According to the manager of Autodema, the communication between Governor Gutiérrez and Cobra will aim at a new understanding between the parties.
They seek to save themselves from denunciation
It is worth remembering that the trigger for Cobra to activate the expiration clause was the non-approval of the addendum 13, clause that implies modifications in the original contract. Until December 30 of last year, the Regional Council did not debate its approval or denial.
The president of the Regional Council, José Luis Hancco, said that they will continue with the process of debating the approval or denial of the addendum. Although, according to counselor Harberth Zúñiga, at this time the situation no longer depends on the Council, but on the understanding reached by the governor and the concessionaire.
Hancco hinted that they would continue with the processing of the addendum, to save themselves from a complaint of omission of functions. “So that they do not (denounce us) by omission, we have to comply,” said the President of the Council.
