The Association of Entrepreneurs of Peru (ASEP), the Association of Entrepreneurs of Latin America (ASELA), the Secretariat of Government and Digital Transformation of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and WhatsApp have formed an alliance to promote the digitization of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MIPyMES) and, thus, contribute to the economic recovery of the country. It is a collaboration that seeks to train entrepreneurs to take advantage of WhatsApp Business, the commercial messaging application that facilitates interaction with customers.
The instruction will reach the public from November 5 through the WhatsApp Friday online program, a space in which expert members of the ASEP will give five training sessions. Digital entrepreneurs can now register and also participate in the launch event scheduled for today at 3.00 pm
WhatsApp Friday
The trainings will include modules of basic and advanced content to deepen in a much more favorable exercise when using the application. Mariella Soto, vice president of ASEP, reported in an interview for Andina that digitization is essential in the economic reactivation. He also extended the invitation to all social agents: “WhatsApp Friday is becoming a benchmark initiative for the promotion of companies in Peru and Latin America. We invite entrepreneurs, businessmen, as well as their communication teams, and freelancers, to dedicate one hour a week to the growth of their company through this free program ”.
For his part, the president of ASELA, Fernando Mendivil, explained to the media how this initiative became popular: it began in Mexico and, after the unleashed success, it was replicated in Colombia. “Now we are excited to also take it to Peru in conjunction with WhatsApp and the Secretariat of Government and Digital Transformation of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers”he added.
Government intervention
The governing body of the country’s digital economy, the Secretary of Government and Digital Transformation of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, has assumed the task of propagating the initiative through its official channels. This dissemination also has the participation of the General Directorate of Innovation, Technology, Digitization and Formalization of the Vice-Ministerial Office of MYPE and Industry (Ministry of Production) and with other promoters that are part of the National Strategy for Digital Talent.
The messaging application in Peru
WhatsApp Business is configured as a virtual showcase for businesses to have a greater presence among consumers, since it allows them to use welcome messages, write automatic responses, use QR codes and present catalogs. Such has been its impact that, worldwide, more than 175 million people send messages to a WhatsApp Business account every day.
That is why for Peru, a country where more than 70% of consumers use the common version of WhatsApp as a purchasing tool, this proposal symbolizes a great advance in the economic sphere. “After the sanitary restrictions derived from the COVID-19 pandemic, one of the most affected sectors was small businesses, so now we are excited to be able to collaborate with the Secretariat to help Peruvian entrepreneurs accelerate the digitization of their businesses”Paloma Szerman, manager of Public Policies for WhatsApp in Latin America, told the media.
