The mayor of Arequipa, Omar Candia Aguilar, regretted that Cobra, the concessionaire of the Majes Siguas II project, decided to terminate the contract.
The mayor hopes that the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) intervenes in the case, so that the concessionaire agrees to grant the extension of a term for the approval of addendum 13 and that the project is finally unlocked.
“Companies also have a social role and commitment. We hope that the Executive will file official letters so that this project can be unlocked, ”he said in statements to La República.
For the mayor, it is not the time to seek those responsible for this situation, which puts the Arequipa region on the brink of international arbitration. “Let’s not blame the governor, it is just days. The solution, I believe, is for the President of the Council of Ministers to call Cobra for a meeting, “he said.
The mayor gave these statements after inspecting the works to reinforce the wall of the San Lázaro stream and the paving of Progreso avenue in the Miraflores district.
Regarding this last work, Candia explained that a European pavement model is used for the asphalt, which consists of two layers. The supplies are being imported and are making ends meet. The work is at 65% advance and must conclude at the end of the month of February.
Regarding the possible damages by the time of rains, Candia indicated that the work has contemplated storm drains, so it ruled out that there would be floods.
