MTC proposes to incorporate monorails to the Integrated Transportation System

The Minister of Transport and Communications, Juan Silva, proposed the incorporation of monorail systems to the Integrated Transport System of Lima and Callao (SIT), as well as in seven other cities in the country.

In a conference from the PCM, Silva Villegas assured that his management “promotes the integration at the national level of the existing means” with the aim of improving the quality of the transport service for people and cargo by reducing travel time.

“We want to improve people’s quality of life, reduce costs and reactivate the economy by creating more jobs. Among the new projects, which are subject to evaluation, we have Lines 3 and 4 of the Lima Metro; the Local Trains; the Grau Train (Tumbes-Tacna); the Inca Train (Cajamarca-Puno); and the Suspended Monorail System ”, he detailed.

In this sense, the head of the MTC explained that the Suspended Monorail System would be applied in Lima, Callao, Chiclayo, Cusco, Trujillo, Piura, Puno and Cajamarca, “because they are cities in which vehicle traffic is particularly complex and it requires an urgent change ”.

MTC: register collectives

On the other hand, Minister Silva assured that the registration of collective cars seeks to obtain an objective diagnosis of the sector, which does not represent a “carte blanche” for transporters.

“We are going to implement a scrapping program so that old units are replaced by new buses because carriers have the right to work with dignity and users to receive good service,” he said.

Finally, Silva clarified that the MTC has not extended permits to transporters for ten years and made an appeal to political forces, the population and the media to work together to improve transportation in the country.
