Pisco Airport: Mincetur plans a meeting with Talma to encourage agro-exports

The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), Roberto Sánchez, announced the immediate formation of a regional technical table in order to resolve the entrapment and bureaucratic obstacles that impede the operation of the Capitán FAP Renán Elías Olivera International Airport, located in Pisco, Ica.

During his visit to the terminal, the minister said that our country needs Ica to consolidate its airport “to continue boosting the national economy.”

“We have come to verify and verify the current panorama of the airport. It cannot be that we have an immense and wonderful air infrastructure without it being fully operational. Ica needs its airport ”, he assured.

In this sense, the head of Mincetur stated that he will invite representatives of Talma, a company that provides air cargo services at the Pisco terminal, in order to reach a solution regarding the indications of the agro-export sector, who hold the company responsible due to a presumed inoperability that forces them to transport their cargo by land.

“There are many interests that we have to make transparent and sit at the table (…) the best interest is the country and its people,” said Sánchez Palomino.

It should be noted that, since they do not have cargo services for their products at the Pisco airport, agro-exporters are forced to take their merchandise by truck to Callao for subsequent shipment, which increases logistical expenses.

Pisco: airport stopped since 2017

For his part, the president of the Chamber of Tourism and Foreign Trade of Paracas (Capatur), Eduardo JáureguiHe argued that Peru cannot “afford to invest heavily in the construction of the airport and that it is useless.” Along these lines, he joined the criticism against Talma.

“It is a monopoly that creates a bottleneck for the agro-export service. Practically, everything is derived to Lima, generating higher rates for the airport service and many go to Guayaquil in order to do their export service, creating cost overruns, ”he said.

Jáuregui indicated that the Pisco air terminal has been inoperative since 2017 and “it has been five years” that it has been in that situation and has become a “white elephant.” He added that this problem must be resolved by government authorities, specifically the Ministry of Transport and Communications.

“The Ica Region stopped receiving more than US $ 200.00 million in airport movement. Expectations were generated in entrepreneurs when improving or building their hotels and restaurants, after estimating the annual arrival of some 400,000 passengers who, in the end, never arrived ”, expressed the head of Capatur.

Pisco: turismo low cost

Finally, Capatur was in favor of the airport being used for low cost flights in order to be competitive for export cargo and for domestic and foreign tourists with lower rates than the Lima airport.

With the operation of the Pisco airport, tourists from Cusco will be able to arrive, as well as foreign visitors from Chile and Bolivia. For this reason, Capatur reiterated his request to start flights from Arequipa to Pisco and prevent tourists from that region from reaching Lima and then moving to Paracas and enjoying its beaches.

“One million tourists from Chile enter Peru and many Bolivians go to the Caribbean to enjoy the summer. Paracas offers foreign tourists good four- and five-star hotels, excellent cuisine, as well as the nature offered by the Paracas National Reserve and the Ballestas Islands, ”he said.
