During the opening ceremony of the decentralized Council of Ministers in Moquegua, President Pedro Castillo raised the possibility of accelerating the massification of natural gas from Camisea throughout the country, with special emphasis on regions of the southern macro-region.
In this sense, the Head of State referred to the presentation of a preliminary report by the Multisectoral Commission in charge of “expanding natural gas reserves and strengthening the hydrocarbon industry for the massification of natural gas at the national level.” that the day before he extended his coordination work until the end of January.
“Yesterday I had a very important report from the commission that was formed to see the case of the massification of the Camisea gas. It is necessary for Peru to have all that information and we are looking at the possibility of accelerating it (overcrowding) ”, he said.

It was not the only announcement regarding the reformulation of the country’s energy matrix. He also highlighted the “recovery” of Lot I of Piura, which will become an operator for Petroperú, along the same lines as lots 192 and 64, whose traffic should be concentrated this year. In addition, he reiterated his government’s intention to build a local urea plant.
Only 300,000 connections
However, the president’s message Pedro Castillo contrasts powerfully with the announcement of the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem), which a few days ago estimated 1.8 million households with natural gas connections that would be reached until the end of 2022.
Currently, there are already 1,500,852 households connected to the service throughout the country, with which the goal for the current year would be only 300,000 more connections. It should be noted that 90% of the connections nationwide are precisely in the capital. The company Cálidda, responsible for bringing gas to Lima and Callao, is close to presenting its 20222026 five-year plan.

More than 50% of the domestic natural gas connections made in the country (838,751 in total) had total or partial financing of the program BonoGas, from the Social Energy Inclusion Fund (FISE).
