The Ministry of Production (Produce) reported that, since last Monday, January 3 of this year, the price of popular consumption marine species such as bonito, horse mackerel, hake and squid decreased compared to the previous week due to a greater supply in wholesale markets of Lima and Callao, which reached a total of 815.6 metric tons.
According to the General Office for Impact Assessment and Economic Studies, the decrease in the average price of bonito was 14.3%, compared to the previous week, at the Ventanilla Fisheries Wholesale Market (Callao) and Villa María del Triunfo Fishing Terminal (Lima), which is due to a higher income from the resource, coming from Callao, Pisco and Pucusana.
“In Lima and Callao, the wholesale price of bonito this week has been S / 3 per kilo, which allows more low-income families to opt for this food product that has a high protein value, ”said Produce’s head, Jorge Luis Prado Palomino.
Meanwhile, the average price of mackerel decreased 20%, in relation to last week, in Lima and Callao due to the greater supply of the resource to wholesale markets, from Callao, Ilo, Huacho and Pisco. In this way, its current price ranges between S / 2.30 and S / 2.40 per kilo.
Also, the average price of hake it fell by 2.9% in relation to the previous week, in Lima and Callao, due to the greater supply of hydrobiological resources to the wholesale markets, coming from Arequipa, Ica, Lima and Tacna. Its cost per kilo is S / 3.30
In the case of pota, its price fell 4.3%, compared to last week, in Lima and Callao, due to a greater supply from Piura and Lima. The cost per kilo ranges between S / 4.30 and S / 4.60.
