The Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) reported that, as of November 2021, a total of 1 million 500,852 homes were connected to the natural gas service nationwide, a figure that exceeded the goal set by the Government for the year above (1.5 million homes).
“In this way, more than 6 million compatriots have access to a more economical and sustainable fuel, which is produced in the Peruvian territory,” said Minem and announced that by 2022 it is expected to reach almost 1.8 million homes with the service, benefiting more than 7 million Peruvians.
As of November, Lima and Callao bring together the vast majority of residential users with more than 1.2 million connected homes.
While in the concession that includes the Ancash, Cajamarca, La Libertad and Lambayeque regions, there are 164,624 households with the service; in Ica there are 68,400 users; In the Arequipa, Moquegua and Tacna concession there are 12,846 benefited houses, while in Piura there are another 2,978.
More than 50% of the domestic natural gas connections made in the country (838,751 in total) had total or partial financing from the BonoGas program, from the Social Energy Inclusion Fund (FISE), which is administered by Minem.
Similarly, BonoGas financed the installation of natural gas in 540 shops and 432 dining rooms in the Lima, Callao and Ica regions. In Lima, it also allowed the construction of 221 kilometers of natural gas networks in the Ventanilla and Carabayllo districts, which benefited 22,000 households.
The ministry highlighted that this year the program’s coverage was expanded by virtue of the modification of the Regulation for the Distribution of Natural Gas by Pipeline Network and the regulation of the FISE and the Hydrocarbon Energy Security System (SISE), through of Supreme Decrees 008-2021-EM and 004-2021-EM, respectively.
“This effort is part of the new government policy to massify and intensify the use of natural gas throughout the country, with the purpose of providing families with a fuel that is 40% cheaper than a homemade gas cylinder (LPG) ”, He pointed.
The program -which was aimed at Lima, Callao and Ica- will now also be implemented in the regions of La Libertad and Áncash to finance not only housing facilities, but also shops, dining rooms, shelters, among other institutions of a social nature.
