Las Bambas: Mirtha Vásquez highlights restart of mining operations

The President of the Council of Ministers, Mirtha Vásquez, highlighted the restart of operations at the Las Bambas mining company after reestablishing the dialogue between the communities and the company with the intervention of the Government.

In addition, it indicated that the state will be present in the area and will carry out a permanent follow-up work for the fulfillment of the commitments assumed by the parties.

“We are looking for a new model, which can declare this area of ​​special interest and that the State permanently follows up on the commitments (…) that the State is vigilant. Before the company and the community signed agreements and nobody followed up, ”he said.

Through an interview with Ideeleradio, he reported that the Government has outlined investment and development projects for the communities, with the aim that the area where the Las Bambas mining company carries out its activity becomes a model for the country.

Likewise, the Prime Minister highlighted that the Government will serve the territories where extractive activities are carried out to close the gaps. However, he indicated that the company must comply with its commitments and that it can adjust to the development model for those territories.

Vasquez said that it is important that the community is part of the value chain of the companies (which is a claim of the community members), as well as reducing environmental impacts.

In addition, he reported that the National Society of Mining, Oil and Energy (SNMPE) proposed a series of changes to address social conflicts, which will be well received.
