Car sales in the CAV fell by 18.3% last year

The registrations of both gasoline and diesel vehicles fell, but those of electric vehicles, hybrids or those that use other fuels such as hydrogen and gas rose.

The sale of passenger cars and SUVs in the Basque Country closed 2021 in negative for the third consecutive year with registrations falling by 18.3% after registering 24,716 operations, that is, 5,545 less than in 2020.

According to data provided by the associations of manufacturers Anfac and distributors Faconauto and Ganvam, 2020 was the third year in a row in which sales fell in the Basque Autonomous Community after the decline of 4.6% in 2019 and the decrease of 23.4 % of 2020, a year very affected by the outbreak of the covid pandemic.

These figures contrast with those of the whole of Spain, where registrations increased 1% last year over 2020, although they were 32% lower than those of 2019.

In the Basque Country last year, both gasoline vehicle registrations (-29.4% and a total of 11,639 sales) and diesel vehicles (-40% and 3,916 operations) fell.

However, sales of electric vehicles, hybrids and those that use other fuels such as hydrogen and gas increased considerably when 9,161 were sold, that is, 26.3% more than in 2020.
