Peru will have the third lowest inflation in Latin America in 2022, according to LatinFocus

According to panelist projections from FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast LatinFocus, made in December 2021, the Peru will show the third lowest inflation in Latin America in 2022.

Thus, in Latin America, the consumer price index (IPC) in Peru will be in third place in 2022 with 3.2%, after Ecuador Y Bolivia with inflation of 1.4% and 2.7%, respectively, according to the report.

Our country will be followed in the top 10 by the inflation of Colombia (3.6%), Mexico (4.1%), Paraguay (4.1%), Chile (4.2%), Brazil (4.9% ), Uruguay (6.8%) and Argentina (49.8%).

It should be remembered that, on January 1, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) reported that inflation in metropolitan Lima closed 2021 at 6.43%. The figure represents an increase of 0.78% between November and December. The result at the end of the year is slightly above the 6.2% projection made by the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP). In addition, it is the highest rate in the last 13 years, since since 2008 (6.65%) it did not exceed six points.

In Latin America, inflation in Peru will rank second next year with 2.6%, after Ecuador with 1.2%, he said.

While in 2024, inflation in Peru will be in second place in 2024 with 2.5%, after Ecuador with 1.5%, the survey highlighted.

It will be followed by inflation in Bolivia (3%), Chile (3.1%), Colombia (3.2%), Brazil (3.3%), Mexico (3.5%), Paraguay (4.2%) , Uruguay (6.3%) and Argentina (32.3%).

Position 2025 and 2026

Within three years, Peruvian inflation in Latin America is projected to stand at 2.4%, occupying the second position, after Ecuador with 1.6%, it highlighted in its December 2021 report.

In Latin America, inflation in Peru will rank second in 2026 with 2.4%, after Ecuador with 1.7%, he said.

Regional average

While Peru will register inflation below the Latin American average in the next five years, estimated the FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast LatinFocus.

Thus, inflation in the country will be 3.2% this year, 2.6% in 2023; 2.5% in 2024; 2.4% in 2025 and 2.4% in 2026; while the average for Latin America will be 8.5% in 2022; 6.6% in 2023; 5.8% in 2024; 5.2% in 2025 and 4.8% in 2026, they predicted.
