Sedapal: Sunass proposes not to increase water rates between 2021 and 2023

The National Superintendency of Sanitation Services (Sunass) announced that Sedapal will invest about S / 2,000 million to improve and strengthen drinking water and sewerage services in Lima and Callao in the 2021-2025 period.

It is estimated that of the S / 2,000 million budget, S / 1,718.8 million will be for the execution of expansion and rehabilitation projects for the sewerage and drinking water systems.

Regarding risk and disaster management and adaptation to climate change, S / 100.9 million will be allocated. Likewise, for the care of water sources, S / 60.5 million will be allocated through compensation mechanisms for ecosystem services (Merese).

This investment has considered a counterpart of the loan that will benefit more than 400,000 users for the execution of the Nueva Rinconada project that will be provided by Sedapal. Regarding the tariff proposal, for the monitoring of groundwater management an investment program of S / 80.3 million is contemplated until 2025.

In this investment, the renovation of the drinking water networks and sewerage collectors is planned to avoid breakages, collapses and blockages due to age. In addition, 1 million water meters will be renewed and 45,257 new ones will be installed to control the fair payment of users for the service.

The ecosystem services of water regulation will be recovered in 24 sectors of the Rímac, Chillón, Lurín and Mantaro basins, through the Remuneration Mechanisms for Water Ecosystem Services (Merese), which will guarantee the supply of drinking water.

Sedapal: rate update

This project will not affect the economy of low-income families since it will maintain a targeted cross-subsidy mechanism. In this way, users with fewer resources will have invoices with amounts lower than the real cost of the service.

In order to determine who will benefit from this system, the stratified plans of the INEI will be taken into consideration and, in addition to the Socioeconomic Classification (CSE) of the Household Targeting System (Sisfoh) of the Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion (Midis).

In the coming days, Sunass will convene a virtual public hearing to provide more details on the tariff study project. There will be direct attention to the leaders of user associations, neighborhood councils, interested institutions, local authorities, professional associations and others to explain the scope of the project, its benefits and resolve doubts and queries that are presented through micro-hearings, workshops and meetings.

Sunnas announced that, to submit comments and contributions to the project, interested parties can write an email or contact each other through the virtual party table on the Sunass website.
