New Jorge Chávez Airport in the final stretch for its inauguration

The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), headed by Raúl Pérez Reyes, announced that the final tests and the necessary adjustments are being carried out to ensure the inauguration of the New Jorge Chávez International Airport on March 30.

According to the Lima Airport Partners (LAP) schedule, the Thursday, March 13 They will conclude the tests of operational availability and transfer to the airport (Orat), a key process to verify the correct functioning of the terminal and detect possible improvements.

Once these evaluations have been completed, the General Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC) will issue a new pronouncement with the results of the tests and, possibly, the confirmation of the opening date. However, the MTC emphasized that this will only happen if compliance with the established safety standards is guaranteed.

“The MTC reaffirms its commitment to the safety, regularity and efficiency of operations in the new airport. The inauguration will be carried out only when strict compliance with national and international civil aviation regulations are verified, ”the sector concluded.

Santa Rosa bridge for 2029

The exact date for definitive access to the new terminal of the Jorge Chávez International Airport remains uncertain. Although the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced in August 2024 that it would be enabled at the beginning of 2027, a document signed with Lima Airport Partners (LAP) indicates that the Santa Rosa bridgekey infrastructure for connectivity, could be ready only in 2029. This has generated concern, since the opening of the airport is near.

The Agreement Act, signed on January 30, 2025 between representatives of the MTC and LAP, establishes that the State has as its maximum period until January 31, 2029 to complete the construction of the Santa Rosa viaduct.
