Japan was the fifth destination of Peruvian exports in 2024

Japan was consolidated as the fifth destination of Peruvian exports in 2024, reaching US $ 3,334 million in shipments, which represents a 44% growth compared to the previous year, according to the Association of Exporters (ADEX). However, trade between the two countries remains concentrated in traditional sectors, with mining (US $ 2,000 million) and hydrocarbons (US $ 976 million) representing 94.5% of the total.

Despite the dynamism in these sectors, the non-traditional offer suffered a contraction of -8.1%, with falls in key products such as pota (-28%) and avocado (-6.4%). Currently, Peru exports 436 games to Japan, although there is room to expand the presence of products with greater added value.

Faced with this panorama, authorities and representatives of the private sector of both countries have been working on strategies to diversify the export offer and strengthen bilateral trade. Among the proposed initiatives are the impulse to agribusiness, aquaculture and clothing, in addition to facilitating the transformation of raw materials into products ready for the Japanese consumer. It also seeks to promote greater Japanese investment in mining, agribusiness and energy.

The interest in promoting trade with Japan will also be reflected in the participation of Peru in the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo, where products with high potential in the Japanese market will be exhibited, such as Alpaca garments, Superfoods (quinoa and chia), cocoa, coffee, grape and pisco.
