This is how the new Jorge Chávez airport looks weeks after its inauguration in 2025: knows its access, parking lots and commercial area

The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) and Lima Airport Partners (Lap) announced that the inauguration of the New Jorge Chávez International Airport is scheduled for March 30, 2025. Initially, the opening of the passenger terminal was scheduled for December 2024; However, due to construction delays, it was rescheduled by January 2025 and, subsequently, the new date was established.

Through Channel N, the spokeswoman of Lima Airport Partners (Lap), Karla Urdiales, reported on the progress of the works and said that the new infrastructure will triple its current size, from 90,000 m² to 270,000 m². Additionally, the project includes the implementation of a second landing track, a new control tower and a modernized passenger terminal, with the aim of optimizing the operational capacity of the airport.

Among them, the public transport service, authorized taxis and private vehicles are included. To facilitate access, three routes have been enabled: an exclusive highway for private cars with the third level, an access destined for buses and taxis on public roads, and a rapid descent area that connects directly to the exits.

Likewise, airport infrastructure has been designed to optimize the operability and comfort of travelers. In that sense, the project contemplates a unique passenger terminal, a commercial space called “Peru Plaza” and an extension in the parking capacity.

In addition, a check-in system will be implemented on the third level, with 90 modules for national and international flights. Finally, as part of the start -up process, safety tests and migrations have been carried out with voluntary passengers and simulated flights.

Airport would drive up to 30 million passengers a year and aim at 40 million in 2030

By 2030, it is projected that Jorge Chávez International Airport serves more than 40 million passengers annually, strengthening its position as a key air connection center in the region. As part of its expansion plan, the modernization of the terminal will allow to receive up to 30 million travelers a year, doubling their current capacity.

Although the construction is in its final phase, work is still done in some areas, such as the Costa del Sol Hotel, located in front of the airport. However, once the operational evidence and the implementation of the necessary security measures are completed, the New terminal will come into operation on March 30.
