The entry of foreigners to Peru remains on the rise. In the fourth quarter of 2024, the country registered 1 million 27 thousand 93 entry movements, a 10% increase compared to the same period of the previous year, according to INEI data and Migrations.
Chile led as the main country of origin, representing 35.5%of income, followed by the United States (13.4%), Ecuador (10%) and Colombia (7.8%). Together, these nationalities, together with Bolivia, Spain, Brazil and Panama, concentrated 87.9% of the total arrivals in the country.
At an annual level, according to the technical report “Peru: Evolution of international entries and outputs”more than 4 million foreigners entered Peru in 2024, with Chile as the main country of origin, registering more than 1.4 million arrivals. Most visitors were between 30 and 59 years old (55.4%), while 19.3% corresponded to older adults and 17.5% to young people aged 15 to 29.
On the other hand, Peruvian exits abroad also showed an increase, highlighting that 50.2% of travelers were men and 49.8% women. In total, Peruvian output movements amounted to 1 million 968 thousand 15 only in the case of men, which represented an 8.4% increase compared to 2023.
Jorge Chávez International Airport: main entrance route
Jorge Chávez International Airport was the main entrance door to the country, with 582 thousand 948 entrance movements in the last quarter of the year. He was followed by Santa Rosa’s control post in Tacna, with 273 thousand 334 income, reflecting the high flow of visitors from Chili. Other border points added 170 thousand 811 movements.
Migratory balance
Peruvian outings abroad grew 6.8% in the Fourth quarter of 2024reaching 1 million 15 thousand 790 movements. More than half of national travelers (60.1%) were between 30 and 59 years old.
In total, the country migratory flow – between and exit from Peruvians and foreigners – it reached 15 million 861 thousand 402 movements in 2024, an increase of 17.3% compared to the previous year. However, the migratory balance of Peruvians was negative in the last quarter, with more exits than income, registering a difference of 20 thousand 838 movements.
