The National Institute for the Defense of Competition and Intellectual Property (Indecopi) reported that requests for research and exams on Dumping and subsidies increased in 2024 and reached prepaandemics levels. In total, the Dumping Commission, subsidies and elimination of non -tariff barriers of the entity attended 11 orders.
These inquiries seek to determine the existence of unfair trade practices that are affecting the branch of national production, and apply the respective rights. Among the sectors that requested them from the second half of last year, are textile, industrial, clothing, fuels, ceramics and steel products, related to countries such as China, Pakistan and the United States.
“This is the result of the confidence of the national productive sectors in the capacity of the institutions in charge of commercial defense, which can provide a more effective and rapid response to the requests for research and application of anti -dumping measures, promoting that national companies submit more applications,” they said from Indecopi.
The institution recalled that anti -dumping and subsidy research are governed by the World Trade Organization (WTO) and allow to adopt commercial defense measures. This situation occurs when foreign companies send their products to Peru at reduced prices, even lower than production costs, which causes significant damage to the national industry (dumping).
It can also happen that foreign companies export their products to Peru at reduced prices, due to state subsidies provided by their governments in the form of financial contributions, causing significant damage to local producers.
What is dumping?
He dumping It is a unfair commercial practice in which a company offers a product in a foreign market at a lower price than the one in its country of origin. This behavior aims to increase its market share or eliminate local competitors.
When this strategy negatively affects the national industry, the World Trade Organization (WTO) authorizes the implementation of corrective measures, which include the imposition of anti -dumping rights, called surfaces, on harmed imports.
