The electricity bill for December will be the most expensive in history for a user in the PVPC: 119 euros

December is already the month with the most expensive electricity price in history.

The electricity bill for this December will amount to 119.17 euros for an average user with the regulated rate (the Voluntary Price for the Small Consumer (PVPC)), 24% more expensive than that of November, thus becoming the highest receipt in history, according to data from the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU).

These calculations are based on the average user in the PVPC with a contracted power of 4.6 kilowatts (kW) and a monthly consumption of 292 kilowatt hours (kWh).

This invoice of 119.17 euros represents an increase of 24% (slightly more than 23 euros) compared to the 95.94 euros to which the receipt amounted last November.

This increase in December in receipts is mainly due to the registered increase in the price of electricity in the wholesale market, which, in the absence of the data for the last day of the year, reaches an average of about 242 euros / MWh, the most expensive month in history.

The average price of electricity in the wholesale market in 2021 thus rises to 112 euros / MWh, which is almost double the 57.2 euros / MWh in 2018, which until this year was the record for the most expensive year.

Thus, in 2021 an average household with the PVPC regulated invoice will have accumulated invoices for a total amount of 949 euros, despite the measures adopted by the Government (reduction of charges, VAT, electricity tax and generation tax).

The Spanish Government considers its commitment to be fulfilled

The President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, has fulfilled its commitment to a electricity bill on average of the Spanish for this year in line with that of 2018, once the CPI has been discounted, due to “the fair and logical effort” of the Executive “to cushion” the rise in the price of electricity.

The President of the Government indicated that the measures put in place have allowed a cut of about 84 euros in the annual bill, leaving the receipt for 2021 at an average of about 613 euros.
