Holy Week is one of the most emblematic religious festivities of Peru. This year it will be held between April 13 and 20, and will be key to energize the sector tourismbecause it will have more days compared to the previous ones.

Holy Week: Average Peruvian Expenditure
Regarding the average expenditure per person, an increase of between S/ 370 and S/ 420 is estimated, which responds to the rise in transport and lodging costs. Last year, the average expenditure per person was US $ 139, equivalent to S/528, according to the Mincetur.
On the other hand, the CCL provides that current climatic conditions will not have a significant affectation in the arrival of tourists. On the contrary, it indicates that there is a greater interest of visitors in the destinations of high tourist value, such as Cusco, Arequipa, Ayacucho and Tarapoto; including Lima whose preference aims at lower distance trips.
“These destinations stand out not only for their religious festivities, but also for their cultural and natural wealth, making them attractive options for travelers,” he said.
Holy Week: Destinations with greater demand
For this season, it is estimated that hotel occupancy in key destinations would fluctuate between 80% and 90%. In the case of Ayacucho could exceed this level that could be between 95% and 100% due to its great religious importance, a city that houses 33 churches and has a tempered climate in April.
Cusco and Arequipa, attractive destinations for their cultural tourism, would have an occupation between 85% and 95%, while Tarapoto and Máncora, which jump through their nature and rest, would reach between 80% and 90%.
“Compared to previous years, there is a significant increase in hotel occupancy. In 2023, according to official figures, Ayacucho registered an 86 %occupation, while Cusco reached only 60 %, ”said Mendoza.
At the moment, climatic conditions are not expected to significantly affect tourists. However, cities are expected to be the greatest demand Ayacucho, Cusco, Huaraz, Arequipa and Lima, The latter chosen for lower distance trips.
Last year, the five main departments visited in this Long Holy Holiday were, Lima, Ica, La Libertad, Piura, Ayacucho, which represented 54% of the total trips made.
