Pedro Francke: people who lose their vehicle will no longer pay vehicle tax

The Minister of Economy and Finance, Pedro Francke, reported this afternoon that people who lose their vehicle due to accidents or theft will stop paying the vehicle equity tax.

“It seems unfair to us that a person who had his car stolen or lost it completely as a result of a fire or crash, according to the legislation in force until today, has to continue paying the vehicle equity tax. We have arranged that he suffers the theft or total loss of his vehicle and should not pay this tax, “he said during the press conference of the Council of Ministers.

On the other hand, Francke indicated that the new improvement includes trucks within this tax obligation. “Due to a small flaw in the regulation, an avoidance mechanism, the trucks were not paying the vehicle equity tax (…) so, this type of vehicle has also been included,” he added.

In this way, he indicated that an elusive mechanism put into practice by some trading companies is being closed.

Finally, he stated that the legislative decree in force until today has been improved to improve municipal taxation. “This has several elements that we have discussed with various mayors and municipal tax administration services,” he commented.
