Through the Ministerial Resolution No. 00078-2025-Producea reproductive ban for hake (Merluccius gayi peruanus) was established in two areas of the Peruvian Sea: between the northern limit of the maritime domain of the country and the 04 ° 00 ‘s (tumbes), as well as between 05 ° 00’ S and 06 ° 00 ‘S (Piura). Ministry of Production: Why is hake closure established?
Article 2 of Decree Law No. 25977, General Fisheries Lawestablishes that the hydrobiological resources in jurisdictional waters of Peru are the nation’s heritage and that the State has the responsibility of regulating its management and exploitation in a rational manner.
In this case, the Ministry of Production (Produce) made the decision to implement a reproductive ban based on the report of the Institute of the Sea of Peru (Imarpe), which evidenced an increase in the reproductive activity of hake in specific areas where it operates The industrial fleet.
The measure, which will have a minimum duration of 30 days, aims protect the spawning process and contribute to preservation of the biomass of the species.
What else establishes the ministerial resolution?
Regarding the commercialization, transport and storage of hake, these may only be carried out if documentation is provided that the resource was extracted before the start of the ban. In addition, resource processing must be carried out within the 48 subsequent hours at the entrance to the restriction.
The Imarpe will be in charge of monitoring the main biological and fishing indicators of hake, while the control and surveillance of vessels will be in charge of the satellite monitoring system for fishing vessels (SISESAT) and the General Directorate of Supervision, Supervision and sanction of the Ministry of Production.
Failure to comply with the rule will be sanctioned in accordance with the General Fisheries Law and other current legal provisions.
