Given the occurrence of oceanographic phenomena, the Ministry of Production decided to expand the dates to govern the obligation to install and keep the SISESAT in handicraft vessels.
The Ministry of Production (produced) officialized this Friday, February 8, a Supreme Decree that establishes provisions for the installation of the satellite monitoring system in artisanal fishing vessels (SISESAT). In this way, the deadline to comply with this measure that will allow monitoring ship operations is extended.
Although it was scheduled that the requirement of having the SISESAT GRASS as of February 12, 2025, the economic situation of shipowners affected by the occurrence of oceanographic phenomena has forced the extent of the scope of this rule.
Fishermen must install satellite control system: Since when?
Given the complaints of artisanal fishermen and guilds for the entry of foreign fleets to the Peruvian Sea, the Government tightened the satellite control measures a few months ago. Now, through DS No. 001-2025-produce, it has established new deadlines to install and keep the SISESAT operational in these fishing vessels:
- Fishing vessels up to 10 m3 of winery capacity: As of December 31, 2026
- Fishing vessels greater than 10 m3 to 20 m3 of winery capacity: until July 31, 2026
- Fishing vessels greater than 20 m3 up to 32.6 m3 of winery capacity: As of January 1, 2026
In accordance with the only complementary provision of the legal device, by other Supreme Decree, incentives and other measures will be established, as well as complementary ordering measures, via ministerial resolution, to promote and facilitate the implementation of the satellite monitoring system for fishing vessels.
Giant squid fishing measures
Through Ministerial Resolution No. 00051-2025, Produce published new measures for the sustainable use of the giant or pota squid resource. The first of them forces fishing vessels to have a current fishing permit that allows them access to the hydrobiological resource.
In addition, only the use of the potter line as fishing art will be allowed and they will have to discharge at the landing points authorized by the General Directorate of Supervision, Supervision and Sanction of Produceswhich may modify them by means of directorial resolution.
