Until December 31, 2025, only reforestation with eucalyptus approved before the entry into force of this provision will be allowed.
The Provincial Council of Bizkaia has begun processing the moratorium for slow down the expansion of eucalyptus in the territory and limit planting of this species until December 31, 2025.
As reported by the regional institution, the Provincial Council has put the text out for public display so that allegations can be made against it. The processing of the text in the General Meetings of Bizkaia and its foreseeable approval in the first quarter of 2022 will continue.
The text states that Until December 31, 2025, only reforestation with eucalyptus approved before the entry into force of this provision will be allowed. or that they were being processed before that moment and were finally approved.
The execution period for these plantations will end 30 calendar days from the entry into force of the provision.
The moratorium also establishes that until the aforementioned date only reforestations with eucalyptus will be allowed. when the affected land has been previously occupied by a forest mass made up mainly of that species and provided that the previous plantations have respected the legislation.
This provision is intended to establish the legal support necessary to regulate the forest use of eucalyptus and stop its expansion, pending the inclusion of the limitation on the planting of this species in a new foral regulation of forests.
