Supplementary credit of S/3,000 million will finance unfinished works of regional governments

The Peruvian Government, through the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), enacted the law that authorizes the incorporation of a supplementary credit, for fiscal year 2024, for the sum of up to S/3 billion.

This regulation, approved last Friday, July 19, by the Permanent Commission, will allow the economic recovery to be promoted by unblocking investment projects throughout the national territory.

The initiative will benefit national and regional and local government departments because it will provide them with greater resources to advance social and infrastructure projects.

According to the Ministry of Economy and Finance, of the S/3 billion, S/1,531 million will be allocated to investment projects, S/753 million will be allocated to advancing the closing of gaps, S/600 million to unblocking works involved with the defunct Reconstruction Authority with Changes and S/116 million to financing projects of the Ministry of Health (Minsa).

This supplementary credit will allow financing different actions, such as the financing of 947 projects nationwide. S/987 million will be transferred to the Ministry of Transport and Communications to start 692 projects, most of which involve the construction of bridges nationwide.

These bridges will improve the efficiency of transport routes, which are interrupted due to the poor condition of their infrastructure, which currently cannot support a certain weight. In many cases, traffic is carried out over culverts in rivers, which become unusable during rainy and flood seasons.

Likewise, S/159 million will be granted for the construction of medical posts; S/113 million for the acquisition of ambulances; S/145 million for 65 sanitation projects; S/30 million for the maintenance of social ladders; S/114 million for 87 agricultural projects; and S/79 million will be directed to 47 projects in the Education sector.

S/347 million will also be allocated to the Ministry of Labor and Employment Promotion (MTPE) to finance more than 1,000 immediate intervention activities of the Llamkasun Peru program and more than 140 projects throughout the country, with the aim of creating more than 68,000 temporary jobs nationwide.

In addition, S/20 million will be allocated to strengthening public defense, with the aim of guaranteeing access to justice for people in conditions of poverty and vulnerability.
