The long-awaited projects of the Lima-Ica Railway and the San Juan de Marcona-Andahuaylas Railway are starting to become a reality. Profile studies for both projects have just been completed, determining their viability.

The head of the MTC explained that both initiatives are part of the package of railway projects that the sector has been promoting in order to contribute to closing the country’s railway infrastructure gaps.
The aforementioned projects will improve connectivity, reduce logistics costs, and reduce travel times for people. After being registered with the Investment Bank, each project could be implemented using the Government to Government (G2G) modality.
The route of the two new railways in Peru

With a length of 560 km and strategic stops in the cities of Ica, Arequipa, Ayacucho and Apurímac, this modern railway will benefit more than 4 million people directly. The investment in this mixed-use railway (freight and passengers) is US$8.16 billion.
As for the Lima-Ica RailwayThis will extend from Villa el Salvador to Ica along 280 km and will have 15 stations, located in the cities of Villa el Salvador, Lurín, Chilca, Punta Negra, Asia, Mala, Cerro Azul, Cañete, Chincha Alta, Chincha Baja, Guadalupe, Pisco, Pisco Airport, Paracas and Ica.
This railway will facilitate the mass transportation of cargo and passengers in a fast and safe manner, contributing to the reduction of traffic congestion and the emission of greenhouse gas pollutants (GHG).
Furthermore, this latest project will directly benefit more than 5.8 million people and indirectly 6.5 million, allowing them to significantly reduce their travel times and boost trade between the cities of Lima and Ica, also promoting Ica’s agricultural production so that it reaches the markets of the capital. The approximate investment for this project amounts to US$6.5 billion.
