The fight against illegal trade in mobile terminal equipment will now be the responsibility of a Multisectoral Working Group, in which the entities involved will participate. Approval of the new proposal for this third phase of Renteseg is expected.
According to the latest statement from the Ministry of the Interior and Osiptel, the blocking of mobile terminal equipment not displayed on the “White List” of the National Registry of Mobile Terminal Equipment for Security (Renteseg) would be temporarily suspended, until the approval of a new regulatory proposal with the purpose of ensuring optimal operation of the system.
In 2017, the Peruvian Government created Renteseg, a measure aimed at preventing and combating the illegal trade of mobile terminal equipment, whose administration was entrusted to Osiptel. During these years, it has contributed to the reduction of cell phone theft (2,000 fewer cell phones stolen daily), as well as to the constant detection and blocking of equipment that is altered for illegal trade.
Along those lines, On April 22 of this year, the third phase of Renteseg began and with it the implementation of the “White List”as established by Legislative Decree No. 1338 and its regulations, with information on mobile terminal equipment registered and authorized to operate in our country.
However, along the way the need to adapt and strengthen the regulations governing this system has been identified in order to avoid any impact on the different departments of the country. Thus, The Ministry of the Interior will form a Multisectoral Working Group with the participation of different committed entities with the aim of developing a proposal that strengthens weak points or gaps.
It is important to clarify that the third phase of Renteseg will continue to operate and, with it, the registration of mobile terminal equipment entering Peru, so the competent bodies urge importing companies to continue with the proper registration of the same.
