AAP: passenger numbers up by more than 20% in the first half of the year

During the first half of the year, the airports of Arequipa, Ayacucho, Juliaca, Puerto Maldonado and Tacna received 1,943,311 passengers, generating a positive impact on the recovery of tourism in the southern regions of the country, according to Andean Airports of Peru (AAP). This represented an increase of 23.6% compared to the same period in 2023, where 1,572,717 passengers were registered. Positive growth is expected for the end of the year.

“The Alfredo Rodríguez Ballón airport in Arequipa is the one that registered the greatest growth during these first six monthswhere it received 1,065,260 passengers, an increase of 17.4% compared to the same period last year, where it received 907,595,” reported Carlos Antonioli, Operations Manager of AAP.

It was also highlighted that, in the case of Juliaca, the flow has more than doubled, receiving 274,848 passengers compared to 2023, where it only had 83,778. This is a result of the reactivation of the various economic activities linked to tourism.

Meanwhile, regarding the other regions, AAP detailed that the Tacna airport received 237,069 passengers during the first half of the year, followed by Ayacucho with 188,866 passengers and Puerto Maldonado with 177,068 passengers.

For this month, an increase of 5.1% is expected in the flow of passengers at its five airportsdue to the increased seasonal demand during the Fiestas Patrias, which will also generate an increase to 136 additional takeoff and landing operations, translating into approximately 345,000 passengers at all locations this month.
