Starting today, the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP) is putting into circulation the Peruvian silver coin that is part of the XIII Ibero-American Series: Ibero-American Capitals, with images alluding to Lima.
There are eight Ibero-American countries participating in the XIII Ibero-American Serieswhere each country mints a coin on a topic of cultural significance and allows its national coat of arms to appear on the coins of other countries.
This numismatic series is organized by the National Mint and Stamp Factory of the Royal Mint of Spain, in cooperation with the central banks of each of the participating nations.
The new national silver coin has on the reverse the sculptural detail of the Greco-Roman mythological allegory called “Fame”located at the top of the fountain in the Plaza Mayor. On the left side, there is a perspective view of the façade of the Cathedral and the Archbishopric of Lima.
Also, at the top of the coin the legend “Capitales Iberoamericanas” can be seen. In addition, in the right quadrant the name of the capital can be seen and below the main figure, the phrase “XIII Serie Iberoamericana”.
Meanwhile, on the obverse, the figure of the Coat of Arms of Peru is located in the center surrounded by the legend “Banco Central de Reserva del Perú”, as well as the denomination in letters of a sun and the year of minting. All of this surrounded by the shields of the countries participating in this series.
