Chancay Port will have the same technology as Shanghai Port, the largest in the world, according to Cosco Shipping

The Chancay megaport is close to being inaugurated and is already generating great expectations in the commercial and economic impact it will have in Peru and throughout South America. The Chinese company in charge of construction is Cosco Shipping Corporation Limited. According to its president, Wan Min, this work will become an important gateway for the country to Asia and the world.

The representative of the company based in China also explained that in this mega project, the same technology and standards are even applied as in the port of shanghaithe largest in the world, according to the Presidency of the Republic.

These statements were made by Wan Min during the meeting he held with President Dina Boluarte, who heads the delegation of Peruvian authorities that will visit the Asian giant until Saturday, June 29.

“We are convinced that with the support of the President and the entire private sector present here, the Chancay megaport will become an important gateway for Peru and South America not only to Asia but to the rest of the world,” said the president of Cosco Shipping Corporation Limited.

The businessman also mentioned that the work will allow the route from Chancay to Shanghai to be shortened by only 23 days. That is, ten days less than it takes to travel that stretch. As a result, the export of agricultural products will be boosted.

Along the same lines, Cosco Shipping’s operations manager in Peru, Carlos Ortiz, announced in mid-June 2024 that the company will export technology from China to the port of Chancay.

This involves the automation of port operations through the implementation of 5G technologies. Thus, the companies assigned to provide these resources to the maegaport are Pilot Technology and ZPMC. The first assumed the delivery of the intelligent vehicles, while the second is responsible for providing the automated cranes.

“We are convinced that the port will become a strong driver for Peru’s economic development and a model for economic and commercial cooperation. Once its construction is completed, Chancay will become the most modern and intelligent port in South America,” said Wan Min, president of Cosco Shipping.

For all these reasons, the representative of the Chinese company stressed that this megaport is the main construction project they currently have. Thus, he stressed that they are working hard to ensure that it is inaugurated before the end of the year.

“We will make every effort to ensure that it is ready in November, together with APEC,” she said. Meanwhile, President Dina Boluarte said that they will try to make the Ancón industrial zone a reality to enhance the benefits of the megaport.

“Hopefully an electric vehicle assembly plant can be installed there, in the interest of both Peru and China to take care of the environment. In our country we have copper and lithium,” he said.
