MTC: Corpac air traffic controllers strike suspended

The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced that the strike by Corpac workers, which is in charge of the operation of the Jorge Chávez International Airport Control Tower, was suspended after a “broad dialogue” between the company and the unions involved.

Through its social networks, the MTC specified that airport activities at the terminal were normalized after the Christmas celebrations. It should be noted that, in itself, the end of the 72-hour strike, which began last Friday, December 24, was scheduled for today, Sunday, 26.

“The Peruvian Corporation of Airports and Commercial Aviation (Corpac) reports that the strike of air traffic controllers was suspended after a broad dialogue with the union and the participation of @MTPE_Peru and the MTC. Airport activities are normalizing ”, says the MTC.

This stoppage, called by the Unified Union of Air Traffic Controllers of Peru (Sucta), It is carried out in rejection of Corpac’s alleged decision to ignore the agreements reached last Christmas, when they lifted a similar strike in which they demanded better conditions to avoid COVID-19 infections.

“Situations that put the health of workers at risk continue to arise and the company is not able to act immediately to avoid non-compliance with social distancing,” Sucta said in a statement.

Corpac, for its part, acknowledged the needs of the union and he assured that, although they try to meet the demands, “the current situation that the company is going through due to the attacks of COVID-19 has not allowed it to achieve the desired economic balance.”
