Average salary requirement in Peru is S/3,033

In May, the average salary required in the country is S/3,033 per month, presenting an increase of 0.53% compared to April of this year, according to the Labor Market Index prepared by Bumeran.

The result for the fifth month of the year also implies a decrease of 0.79% in the annual accumulated figure; while in relation to March 2023, the index presents a decrease of 0.82%.

The required salaries vary according to the seniority level of the professional. In that sense, the salary requirement for the boss/supervisor segment is S/4,585, for the semi-senior and senior level it is S/3,168 and for junior positions it is S/1,940. In the senior and boss segments there was an increase of 0.45% and 2.09%, respectively. The Junior segment decreased by 0.67%.

According to the analysis of the job portal, there are some specific job positions that are above the average for each seniority, being the best salaries sought by Peruvians. In the boss or supervisor segment, the job position that requires the highest intended salary is Investments or Investment Projects with S/8,000. For the senior and semi-senior segment, applications to fill positions in Industrial Security register the highest salary requirement with S/5,850. Meanwhile, In the Junior segment, the Occupational Medicine position is the one with the highest salary requirement, with S/3,500.

Gender pay gap

The Bumeran Index registered a salary gap of 9.47%, where the average salary requested by men is S/3,180 per month and the salary required by women is S/2,905.

In this context, the average wage requested by men experienced a reduction of 0.88%, while that of women decreased by 0.99% in the last month.

The study further reveals that 39.70% of the total applications come from women, while 60.30% are men. Compared to the previous month, a slight increase of 1% in female applications was observed.

“It is evident that as seniority increases, the proportion of female applications decreases. In junior positions, the distribution is similar between both genders, with 47.79% women and 52.21% men. However, at semi-senior or senior levels, the gap widens: 34.32% correspond to women and 65.68% to men. In the case of boss or supervisor positions, the proportion of female applications is even lower, representing 28.93%, in contrast to 71.07% for men,” details Bumeran.
