Exchange rate: dollar closes lower today, Friday, June 21, with S/3.8020

The exchange rate closed today with S/3.8020, 0.08% less than the last day, where it targeted S/3.8050, according to the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP).

In the parallel market, the greenback is now at S/3,780 for purchase and S/3,810 for sale; while in banking, the purchase and sale is at S/3,754 and S/3,840, respectively.

During the day, the dollar was slightly pressured downwards due to offers from local corporations, taking the currency to a minimum price of S/3.7970 and a maximum of S/ 3.8040. In addition, US$211.2 million were traded in the market at an average price of S/3.8006said Gianina Villavicencio, currency intermediation manager at Renta4 SAB.

On the other hand, labor market momentum is slowing along with the broader economy, following interest rate increases by the Fed starting in 2022 to control inflation. Cooling labor market conditions have led to reduced inflationary pressures and financial markets anticipate one or more rate cuts this yearVillavicencio explained.

So far this year, the dollar has accumulated a variation of 2.56% and in interannual terms, of 4.51%, according to the BCRP.
