No passports or visas. This measure would contribute to the reactivation of tourism and would allow us to get closer to three million tourists by the end of the year.
Ricardo Acosta, president of the Peruvian Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies (Apavit Peru), proposed that one of the central topics for the next meeting of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) be free transit. That is, only by presenting the DNI, any of the 21 members of the aforementioned alliance can travel from one country to another.
Although it will be difficult to exceed the goal set for this year of 4,371,000 tourists, similar to pre-pandemic figures, it could undoubtedly benefit Peru’s tourism reactivation. It is expected that the cities that would be most favored would be those where the meetings of this alliance are held: Lima, Cusco, Arequipa, Trujillo and Pucallpa.
“With luck, maybe we’ll get to three million. It is necessary to point out that we are one of the last countries in the region that has not yet reached full recovery as almost all our competitors near and far in Latin America have done thanks to the unrestricted support of their respective governments,” said Acosta.
Regarding the situation at the Jorge Chávez airport, the president of Apavit spoke in favor of postponing its next inauguration to the end of January next year since it would be a low season and the ideal would be to “avoid chaos and go step by step.” .
