Recently, President Dina Boluarte supervised the progress of this imposing new port, after the arrival of new cranes was announced to advance its execution and subsequent inauguration in the month of November.

Chancay megaport: what is its current progress?

The Chancay Megaport, an ambitious project that has witnessed significant progress since the beginning of its construction, is positioned as a major project that involves a multimillion-dollar investment. Its main purpose is to enhance the country’s port capacity and optimize logistics connectivity at the national and international level. According to official projections to date, it is estimated that the first phase of this megaproject is 85% completed, thus marking an important milestone in its development.

When will the port of Chancay operate?

The official opening of the Megaport Chancay, scheduled for November 2024, represents a crucial milestone in the Peruvian maritime trade landscape. It is projected that once operational, this port will handle a considerable volume of cargo, which will undoubtedly boost efficiency in the country’s commercial operations and contribute significantly to the national economic growth. This will operate in 2025.

It is important to note that the opening date coincides with the celebration of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum 2024 (Aspec), which adds additional strategic value to this event. The planning of the opening ceremony includes the presence of prominent political and business figures, underlining the importance and relevance of the megaport as a project of vital importance for the comprehensive development of the country.

A clear example of the significance of this project is the confirmed visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping, which highlights the interest and importance that this megaport has at an international level.

Government will promote road projects for connectivity with the port

The Minister of Transport and Communications, Raul Perez Reyes, has communicated the intention to develop a logistics axis project with the objective of significantly improving the infrastructure of the Panamericana Norte. In addition, the planning of the construction of the Chancay-Chancayllo Avoidance Road and a new road that will complement the Pasamayo variant, thus forming a road pair that will contribute to the development and efficiency of transportation in the region.

“We are working on all these projects, some have finished profiles and others are being developed. In some cases they are already at the technical file level, that is, we are talking about works that are on track to see results in the following years,” stated the leader of the TCMRaúl Pérez Reyes.
