Oliver Stark is the new president of the Petroperú board of directors

Petroperú has appointed Oliver Stark Preuss as the new president of its board of directors, in a context marked by significant changes and a comprehensive restructuring of the company. The decision was made during the last General Shareholders’ Meeting, in which the departure of Carlos Linares was also made official.

Stark Preuss has an outstanding 43-year career in the mining and commercial sectors, having held high-level executive positions in various companies. His appointment is part of the government’s strategy to more efficiently manage the resources of the state oil company.

Who is Oliver Stark, the new president of Petroperú?

Oliver Stark Preuss is an executive with solid experience in the mining and commercial sector. Between 2003 and 2005, he served as general manager of the Gildemeister Group, an automotive industry company in South America. In addition, between 2018 and 2022, he held the position of Administration and Finance Manager at Sociedad Minera Austria Duvaz.

His arrival at Petroperu marks the beginning of a new stage in which it is expected to optimize the company’s management and face the challenges of the sector with a renewed and strategic vision.

Who was the previous president of PetroPerú and why was the board renewed?

Carlos Linares, who chaired the Petroperú board before Stark’s arrival, was disqualified by the Comptroller to exercise public functions. This disqualification was due to irregularities detected during his management as president of the Board of Directors of the Development Financial Corporation (COFIDE).

Linares’ departure occurred just two months after assuming the position, in a context of questions. The former president defended his professional career and questioned the Comptroller’s decision.

Will Petroperú be privatized?

The issue of the privatization of Petroperú has been the subject of debate in the political and economic spheres. The Minister of Economy and Finance, José Arista, has stated that, for the moment, he does not consider a privatization of the state company viable.

However, the minister has also noted that, as the company begins to show positive results, its value will increase, which could facilitate private participation through different mechanisms.

Minister of Economy will be questioned over the Petroperú case

He Congress of the republic has approved a second motion to interpellate the Minister of Economy and Finance, José Arista, with 88 votes in favor, 25 against and 7 abstentions.

Arista must appear before the Plenary on June 14 to respond to the measures that will be implemented regarding the financial situation of Petroperú and explain the legal bases for the representation of the Peruvian State before the international rating agency Fitch Rating.
