Petroperú’s temporary contract for the exploitation of hydrocarbons in Block I is approved

The Government of Pedro Castillo approved temporarily awarding the exploitation of hydrocarbons to Petróleos del Perú SA (Petroperú) in Block I located in the province of Talara (Piura), the term would be just 22 months.

Supreme Decree No. 030-2021-EM published today in the official newspaper El Peruano states that through Board Agreement No. 070-2021, adopted in its Session No. 33-2021, dated November 25, 2021, and Board Agreement N ° 074-2021, adopted in its Session N ° 35-2021, dated December 9, 2021, the Board of Directors of Perupetro SA approved the Draft Temporary License Contract for the Exploitation of Hydrocarbons in Block I, to be celebrated between Perupetro SA and Petróleos del Perú SA – Petroperú SA, submitting it to the Ministry of Energy and Mines for its consideration and respective approval.

Block I is currently operated by the company UNNA (former GMP), but the term of said contract expires on December 26 of this year, after 30 years of validity of the term established by the Organic Hydrocarbons Law (LOH), to oil exploration and production contracts.

The current production of Block I is 539 barrels of oil per day. It has 99 wells drilled and the investment made in this lot amounts to 135.9 million dollars.
