The National Superintendency of Labor Inspection (Sunafil) reported that it was detected that the Shougang mining company did not adopt sufficient preventive and protection measures in the work environment to prevent three of its workers from dying of COVID-19, since the investigations concluded that the contagion occurred in their facilities.
The supervisory entity specified that these conclusions are added to a previous investigation carried out months ago, in which also it was concluded that four other workers also died from contagion produced within the company.
Sunafil also determined that Shougang did not monitor compliance with occupational health and safety regulations by its contractor San MartÃn Contractors General, since it was verified that it did not comply with the prevention and protection measures against the virus of the COVID-19, which ended with the death of two workers in the same work center.
These facts were corroborated in the respective acts of infraction, behaviors that turn out to be insurmountable, and that constitute infractions in matters of safety and health at work, classified as very serious and punishable. In both cases the proposed fines amount to 11,572 soles and 18,840 soles respectively.
