Mincetur will seek to make Peru the best tourism destination in Latin America by 2030

The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Elizabeth Galdo, pointed out today that the Peruvian Government has been making important progress for the economic development of the country.

Thus, he pointed out that Mincetur works under a “360 Vision” that seeks to achieve, in the shortest possible time, auspicious impacts in the sector.

The goal set is that, by 2030, Peru becomes the best tourism destination in Latin America, and in the short term, it is expected to recover pre-pandemic numbers.

“For this year, we have set the goal of achieving 4.4 million arrivals in inbound tourism. And, in domestic tourism, achieve 48 million trips, a figure we reached pre-pandemic,” said the head of Mincetur.

On the other hand, when referring to foreign trade, he revealed that the implementation of a solid Foreign Trade Policy has allowed Peru to currently have 22 trade agreements with 58 economies.

As is known thanks to these treaties, 92% of our exports of goods go to countries with which we have trade agreements.

“We have important news. The Optimization of the FTA with China is currently being negotiated. In addition, Peru and Hong Kong have achieved the substantial conclusion of the negotiation for a trade agreement. We have also been making progress with India and, recently, the first round of negotiations for a future Trade Agreement between Peru and Indonesia was held,” the minister explained.

Mincetur: the opportunities are in China

Regarding China, the head of Mincetur indicated that negotiations for the Optimization of the FTA have been resumed and progress is being made. This negotiation aims to maximize the benefits of the FTA, through the modernization of certain provisions and the incorporation of new chapters.

When referring to the development of the APEC 2024 Forum in our country, he indicated that it has been very successful and Peru will consolidate its strategic positioning in the Asia-Pacific, the most dynamic region in the world.

Finally, the head of Mincetur pointed out that the new Law on Maritime Cabotage approved by the Congress of the Republic will positively impact the national economy and boost foreign trade.

“With this new law, national companies, importers and exporters, especially more than 6,000 MSEs in the regions, are offered an alternative to land transportation, which will allow them to be more competitive and reduce times and costs in their logistics operations,” he added. the minister.
